Solmareno Rioja Crianza
Matured for 12 months in American oak barrells this wine is a blend of the classic Rioja grapes-Tempranillo and Grenache-known in Spain as Garnacha. Winemaker Carmelo Ortega has captured a classic "Old World" Rioja style but with great smoothness, fruit and definitely not heavy "oakey"
Tasting Notes
Lovely scarlet "plummy" red in colour this wine has lovely aromas of vanilla and hints of spice overlaid with elegant ripe black fruit and buttery notes. Beautifully balanced it has silky smooth tannins and is full of dark cherry and black fruit with lovely savoury notes. After being open 20 minutes or so, the flavours of ripe sweet red berry come through on the palate. The finish is smooth, long and lingering with hints of liquorice and spice. Alcohol 13.5%-Tasted 29.07.11
