Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc
The Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Te Muna vineyard on the edge of the town of Martinborough. This wine which enjoyed a cool dry and late season is both complex and interesting. 15% of the grapes were whole bunch pressed with the remaining 85% destemmed. This wine is a blend of stainless steel fermented and oak barrique fermented sauvignon It has spent six months on its lees and has been both fined-(where the winemaker adds a natural product/fining agent such as egg white or Bentonite to the wine. By a process of particle attraction the miniscule bits that might make the wine appear cloudy “stick” to the fining agent to produce bigger particles that can then be filtered out of the wine to make it clear and bright)-and filtered before bottling in November 2010.
Tasting Notes
The Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw in colour streaked with green hues. Herbal elements of sage and mint are balanced by lime and passionfruit aromatics. A subliminal hint of vanilla and cream provide the added complexity. The palate’s rich core of fruit is tempered by citrus-like acidity lending balance and freshness going onto a lingering clean finish 13.2% alcohol 11.05.11
