Louis Latour Chablis
The vineyards of Chablis are centred around the town of Chablis which is situated approximately 100 miles North of Beaune-(being the most northernly wine district in Burgundy)-located in the valley of the Serein River. Its original great success in the very early years was due to its proximity to Paris-its "number one" market. Revival in the second half of the twentieth century was due to the dedication of its winemakers coupled with its reputation on the ever growing international market. As with all vineyard sites, the soil is critical, but here perhaps more noticeably than many other areas due to the "Kimmeridgean clay soil-(very rich in marine fossils)-and limestone rock, there is a definite mineral/stone/flinty character to the wine. There are 4 grades of wine from the greatest Grand Crus, to the Premier Crus, straight reigonal Chablis and Petit Chablis,-which is typically greener with higher acidity levels-although this varies from vineyard to vineyard and dependant on the vintage.
Tasting Notes
Louis Latour Chablis is pale yellow in colour with slight green tints. Aromas of floral and mineral notes are complemented by flavours of crisp fresh fruit and minerality. The wine is developing beautifully as with so many of the 09s, and will continue to develop and open up over the next few months. 26.10.10
