Chateau de Tracy

With history of growing vines on this property dating back to 1396 the Chateau is steeped in history linking the Scottish family of Francois Stutt-(later to be known as Destutt in French fashion) to the French family of Tracy when Francois Stutt married The Lady of Tracy in 1586. With the family being documented throughout the next three centuries, it was at the end of the 19th Century when Jacques de Tracy formally structured the vineyard and produced the first bottles of wine at the Chateau-Pouilly Fume and sparkling wine "Methode Champenoise", to be sold into the domestic and Russian markets.

At the beginning of the 1950s wine production took another major step forward with the marriage of Jaqueline de Tracy to The Comte Alain d'Assay. Together they invested and restored the vineyard which is now very ably run by the next generation under the direction of Comte Henry d'Assay.
The practice of Viticulture Raisonee (La Lutte Raisonee) is carried out in the vineyards-an approach where the vines and their environment are respected and treated only when necessary for pests and diseases thus avoiding the uneccesary application of chemicals. This has dramatically improved the health and quality of the vines and grapes-which in turn now produce world class fine white wines.
The vineyards are located to the North of the Pouilly Fume area on the hillside slopes overlooking The Loire-The chateau de Tracy Vineyards extend from "Tracy Hill"-with its clayey flint soil, to the "Champs de Cris" plateau-with calcareous Kimmeridge and Portland Clay soil-growing only Sauvignon Blanc.
