Michel Redde et Fils
Situated along the RN7 -(the original road between Paris and the Cote d'Azur) you will find the winery of La Moynerie, opened in 1966. -Having worked along side his father for twenty years, Michel Redde (6th generation and born in 1930) took over the family business which was predominantly farming and breeding with a little wine production. In the 1950s he managed to buy up the land and re-plant it for the next generation and level of Redde wines. In 1977 Thierry Redde, Simone and Michel’s son, who was born and bred in this magnificent world of vineyards and wine, joined his parents, bringing new ideas with him and increasing the acreage of their vineyard. Now, assisted by his two sons Sebastien and Romain, the estate -some 40 hectares-specialises in Pouilly Fume and Pouilly sur Lore wines. Having handed over the business to Thierry, Michel went onto fulfill his dream of being an artist, producing 140 paintings between 1991 and 1997.
The La Moynerie vineyard has three types of soil structure, namely chalky clay soil in the village of Tracy sur Loire, Kimmeridgian marls-(named after Kimmeridge in Dorset and laid down during the Jurassic peiod), located in the village of Pouilly sur Loire and a clayey-siliceous soil within the 15 hectares planted on the Saint Andelain hillsides-the latter contributing to the distinct flinty mineral taste of the Pouilly Fume-if you chip the stones together there is a very distinct flinty almost gunpowder aroma generated.
The cellar door has a very traditional style and almost rustic feel to it, but behind it lies a well built and equipped winery generating some absolutely first class Loire white wines.
