Bosquet des Papes
Run now by larger than life Nicolas Boiron and his wife-Jeanne-Claire-(and 6th generation baby daughter Lola)-the winery obtained its current name in 1966-since 1936 it was called Clos Chantemerle.
Maurice, Nicolas's father, handed over in 2008 although is still very much seen around the winery.
As would be expected quality is the focus, however Nicolas, while wanting to effect change is very wary of making it too quickly.
Perhaps characterising the wines as a more traditional style, Nicolas plans to "tweek" each year rather than change. The latest wines are certainly showing a less heavy oak influence. The style of the wines is clearly designed to age well-perhaps 7 to 10 years-before showing their best. The top cuvees are now becoming much sought after.
The large foudres throughout the winery-used for both fermentation and ageing- remind you of the history and tradition of this house
