Chateau Pesquie

Rene and Odette Bastide purchased Chateau Pesquie in the early 1970s-a brave decision as the Appellation of Cotes du Ventoux was not established untill 1973. They embarked on a major re-investment programme within the vineyards to turn around the reputation of the winery. This culminated in the new winery and cellars being built under the direction of their daughter Edith and son in law Paul Chaudiere in 1989 with the first vintage being produced in 1990-The Quintessence. Vine cultivation has been in the Chaudiere family since the 19th century-Pauls father Charles was the oenology professor at the wine institute in Orange.

2003 Saw Edith and Pauls' two sons-Alexandre and Frederic take over the domaine with their cousin Renaud. All of the investment and family commitment has made Chateau Pesquie one of the leading estates not only within the Cotes du Ventoux but also the Southern Rhone with their wines now being sold from Japan across the globe to the USA. With the new and younger direction the wines continue to evolve and build on the success of the last two generations.

Located on the Southern slopes of the Mont Ventoux, the vineyards benefit from an outstanding amount of sunshine-an annual average of 8 hours per day, peaking in July with 12 hours per day. However they also benefit from the "shadow" effect of the Mountain which, in conjunction with the average height above sea level of the vines being 300 metres, results in temperatures being 2 or 3 degrees cooler than the adjoining Comtat Venaissain plain only 15 kilometres away.  The overall benefit being that they can achieve both sugar and phenological (skins and pips) ripeness in balance.
"Château Pesquié is the finest estate in the Côtes du Ventoux"--Robert Parker February 2008
